Hudson County- As a resident of Hague County, it's no surprise when allegations of corruption come to light. Recently, Hague County's latest celebrity, Leonard Filipowski aka Leroy Truth, has been making a name for himself getting forcibly removed from public meetings. As a result of being forcibly removed, the First Amendment Auditor has filed a federal lawsuit against several prominent officials, alleging violations of his First Amendment rights after he was forcibly removed from two public meetings.

The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court, names State Senator and Union City Mayor Brian Stack, former Governor Jim McGreevey, and other officials, accusing them of suppressing his right to free speech. In a statement, Filipowski said “This is about more than just me—this is about the right of every citizen to hold their leaders accountable without fear of being silenced,” he said.

The lawsuit is the latest chapter in Filipowski’s long-running crusade against what he describes as entrenched corruption in Hudson County. His efforts, which include video exposés and public confrontations, have earned him both praise from transparency advocates and criticism from local officials who see him as a disruptive force. Legal experts note that while First Amendment cases involving public meetings can be complex, courts have generally upheld the right of government bodies to set rules for public comment while also protecting individuals from viewpoint-based discrimination.

Filipowski says he intends to press forward with his case, framing it as a test of government accountability. “If they can silence me, they can silence anyone,” he said. According to a self published post on Facebook, Filipowski has court on March 21st, 2025, at 9:00 am.
